Richard Alan “Runt” Newman, Sr., 52, of Meredosia, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born April 8, 1955, in Jacksonville, the son of Larry Joe and Barbara Berry Newman. He married Joyce Howard on May 29, 1979. He later married Martha Gutierrez on June 26, 1989, and she survives.
He is also survived by his parents of Versailles; one daughter, Nicole Jo Newman (fiance, Chad Sigler) of Bluffs; one son, Richard Alan Newman, Jr. (fiance, Trish Dickens) of Woodbridge, Va.; three grandchildren, Mary Denver Alhorn and Olivia Kimberly Sigler, both of Bluffs, and Tyler James Newman of Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, Anthony Joseph (wife, Elizabeth) Newman of Prince Frederick, Md. and Randy Jay (wife, Tammy) Newman of Meredosia; one sister, Elisa Elaine Myers (companion, Steve “Buck” Ladely) of Meredosia; one uncle; one aunt; one niece; three nephews; two great-nephews; one great-niece; and several cousins.
Mr. Newman was a 1973 graduate of Meredosia High School. He had worked as a roofer. He enjoyed fishing, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Fighting Illini basketball and NASCAR. Rick will always be remembered for his love of animals and his big heart.
