Born Richard Allen Wood, November 29, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard Barton Wood and Jennie (Jane) Harriet Allen.  Graduated Class of 1945 from North High School.  Participated in the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life, earning the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth and awarded the Silver Beaver Award as an adult.  A World War II Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class 1945-1946 and in the U.S. Naval Reserves as an Ensign 1955-1960.  He graduated from The University of Iowa Medical School in 1959; residency program at the Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa in 1960; opened private family practices in Peterson, Iowa (1960-1963); Fremont, California (1963-1990); and Littleton, Colorado (1990-2000).

 

He is survived by his spouse of 65 years, Dolores K. Wood; sons Jeffrey C. Wood and John A. Wood, daughter JoLynn Wood;  4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters,  2 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters; sister Eleanor Joyce Shiffler and brother James B. Wood.

 

His passions in life included being a Family Physician, both amateur and professional photography, owning and flying a Globe Swift airplane, airplane model making, Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts, working in his wood shop, and reading.

 

He died peacefully on January 15, 2014 in Centennial, Colorado.
