Richard A. Lemoine, 89, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 in Beaumont Nursing Home in Northbridge after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Anne E. “Betty” Lemoine, with whom he was married for almost 66 years.
Dick was born in Northbridge, a son of the late George and Alice (LeBlanc) Lemoine. He was a graduate of Northbridge High School, where he played football and track. He served ten years with the Navy Seabees, in the Philippines during World War II and in Africa during the Korean War, and had resided in Upton since 1949. He worked as a purchasing agent for Kupfer Bros. Co. for 28 years, and then as a foreman at Bay State Abrasives in Westboro for 16 years before retiring.
An accomplished athlete, he participated in local softball, basketball, volleyball, and bowling leagues, and volunteered as an umpire for the Upton Little League for many years. He also volunteered with Upton Boy Scout Troop 132, restored antique Model Ts, and was a member of the George L. Wood VFW Post, the Model T Club, Bay State Retirees Club, and a communicant of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Kenneth Lemoine and his wife Helen of Framingham, Karen Stone and her husband Jay of Salem, NH, Brenda Dwyer and her husband Fran of Raleigh, NC, and Lisa Hall and her husband Jeffrey of Upton; a sister, Dorothy Mills of Northbridge; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late George Lemoine and Ruth Douville.
The family extends thanks to close friends and the Beaumont Northbridge staff for their care.
