As a successful businessman, he was the President and owner of Somerset Publishing Company and Treasurer of the Associated Business Press for twelve years.
As an active member of his church and community he was asked to be the first Extraordinary Minister at Holy Cross Parish. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at River View Hospital for over 25 years.
Richard was also the Chairman of the St. Georges Club in Bermuda, former Commodore of the Shrewsbury River Yacht Club and the President of the Rootbeer and Checkers Club.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, John and Mabel Lawrence and his brother John. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Patricia to whom he was married for 62 years. He is also survived by his six children, Richard, Mary Elizabeth, Carole, John, James and Eileen as well as 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
