Richard Allen Field, 66, of Cardinal Avenue, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 4, 2008) in his home after a battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 29, 1941, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Truxton K. and Virginia M. (Pelate) Field. On April 9, 1983, he married Jean A. (Frey) Gearhart in Elkhart.
She survives along with three daughters, Tammy Field of Caseyville, Ill., Sherri Gonzalez of Olathe, Kan., and Erin (Lee) Snedaker of Elkhart; three sons, Steven (Bonnie) Field of Olathe, and Todd Greiner and Troy (Sheila) Greiner, both of Elkhart; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Karen) Taylor of Pu Du Rocher, Ill.; and five sisters, Elizabeth (Keith Allred) Lambert of Hillsboro, Ore., Cheryl (Randy) Bishop of Bristol, Bonnie (Mike) Weaver of Goshen, Debra Caston of Elkhart and Claradean (Jim) Null of Puxico, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny “Sonny” Field.
Mr. Field worked most of his life in the RV industry and retired in 2008 after 13 years at Goshen Coach, Elkhart, because of his illness. He was an adept handyman, and when he wasn’t fixing and restoring older cars he could be found fixing things for others.
He was an avid fisherman, often taking his grandchildren with him. One of his favorite things was spending time with his family.
