Richard A. “Dick” Ivins, 74, of Metamora, IL passed away at 4:50 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born on August 1, 1942 in Peoria, IL to Merle E. and Bertha B. (Uphoff) Ivins. He married Ratree Puangngern on July 22, 1972 in Thailand. They then had a U.S. marriage performed on December 14, 1972 in Metamora, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his children Renee (David) Kitts of Rutland, Vermont and Somjad Puangngern of Kirkwood, Missouri; grandchildren Jackson and Ella; brother Roger Ivins of West Peoria, IL; and sister Evelyn (Bill) Dahl of East Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard was a graduate of Metamora Township High School. Dick was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Bradley University. He worked for Caterpillar for 9 years and then IDOT as a development technician for 19 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion Post 89.

Richard was a loving father and grandfather and treasured his time with his grandchildren. He collected model cars and enjoyed attending car shows. He spent much of his retirement outdoors, weather permitting, tending to his lawn and garden.

The family expresses their sincere thanks and appreciation to Ted Cowling, Richard’s lifelong friend and neighbor, who had always been there for him.
