Rex Hinman, 88, a longtime resident of Galien, Michigan, died at 8:53 AM Tuesday morning, July 15, 2008 at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, Indiana after a battle with Lewy Body Disease.
Rex was born February 17, 1920 in Buchanan, Michigan to Lee and Lydia (Fulton) Hinman and graduated from Galien High School in 1937. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during World War II. Rex married Jean Renbarger on March 12, 1949 in Galien.
He coached little league for many years in Galien and was instrumental in getting the league started there. He was employed by Niles Excavating, and, after retiring from Selge Construction Company, Rex worked for Wightman and Associates. He was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his ponies and riding in many area parades.
Rex was a lifetime member of the Galien American Legion Post 344. He served on the Galien Village Council for many years and was a member of the Galien Woods Historical Society. Survivors include his wife, Jean; son, Don (Joni) Hinman of Clinton, Michigan and daughter, Laurie Linville of Granger, Indiana; grandchildren, Chris, Corey, Amy, Ross Hinman and Sara Mead; great grandchildren, Cameron and Bradyn; sister, Helen Chapman, of Three Oaks, Michigan and brother Beryl (Myra) Hinman of Three Oaks and his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hinman of Buchanan.
Rex was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Hinman; brothers, Glen, Dean, Raymond, and sister Meryl Boltenhouse.
