Rex Allen Nicholas, 49, of New Troy, Michigan, died Sunday morning, May 1, 2005 at his home in New Troy. Rex was born May 14, 1955 in Michigan City, Indiana to Charles and Ruth (Marshall) Nicholas. He grew up in Three Oaks and graduated from River Valley High School in 1973. He served his country as an Engineman in the US Navy aboard the USS Milwaukee, patrolling such places as the Mediterranean Sea and Haiti.
Rex was employed by Oldenburg & Sons Excavating in Sawyer, Michigan and was a member of the American Legion Weechik Post 518, New Troy. He enjoyed tinkering on things all his life, as well as fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, and golf. Rex loved hanging out with his friends and family and was considered a party waiting to happen.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Nicholas of Galien, Michigan; sisters, Judy (Scott) Phillippi of Galien and Mary Nicholas of Haines City, Florida, brother Charles (Frances) Nicholas of Three Oaks and his companion and friend, Lisa Williams. His father, Charles, preceded him in death in 1983.
