The Reverend Allen Buford Hollis, Jr., age 82, of Lanett passed away at his residence on Saturday, April 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
The Reverend Hollis was born in Tallassee, Alabama on September 25, 1934 to the late Allen B. Hollis, Sr. and the late Dora Speaks Hollis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marian Leak Longshore Hollis and his stepdaughter, Kim Waddell.
Reverend Hollis was a 1952 graduate of Lanett High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trevecca Nazarene University, Class of 1957. He later earned a Bachelor of Divinity in 1960 from the Nazarene Theological Seminary. He went on to serve as the pastor of the Langdale Congregational Christian Church in Valley from 1965 to 1972. In 1977, he attended Lancaster Theological Seminary, where he did his residence work for the Doctor in Divinity degree.
He served as pastor and missionary in the following locations: Sedalia, Mo.; Marmet, W. Va.; Nazareth, Israel; the Langdale community in Valley; Nashville, TN.; Huntsville, AL.; New Orleans, LA.; Jackson, MS.; Thomastown, MS.; Louisville, KY.; Dayton, Ohio and the Riverview community in Valley.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Davidson, Tammy (Jan) Hollis, Tonya (Jim) Frank; stepchildren, Ab (Carol) Longshore, Jeffrey (Marsha) Longshore, Kerri Hamilton, Kyle Killam; sister, Mary Campbell; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
