Rev. Xavier F. Renda 78, of East Haven, entered into eternal rest on June 22, 2009 in The Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Fr. Renda was born in New Haven June 15, 1931, son of the late Saverio and Filipina (Josephine) Minaudo Renda. He Graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven and Boston College. He was ordained a priest on April 25, 1958 at the Franciscan Holy Land Monastery in Washington, D.C. His assignments over the years included St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston, Sacred Heart Parish in Rochelle Park, N.J., Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Garfield, N.J., St. Francis Chapel in Providence, and several parishes in Fairfield County including Director of Guidance at Stamford High School, St. Bridget of Ireland, Sacred Heart, St. Cecelia and St. John the Evangelist, all in Stamford, St. Aloysius in New Canaan, St. Raphael in Bridgeport, St. Peter in Danbury, St. Philip and St. Thomas the Apostle, both in Norwalk, Assumption in Westport, St. Lawrence in Shelton, and was appointed Spiritual Director of Cursillo Movement and at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Stamford, and Parochial Vicar at Notre Dame Parish in Easton. He is survived by a brother, Salvatore Renda of Wallingford; two sisters, Margaret McGarry of East Haven and Josephine Fedrizzi of Granby; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Frank Renda and four sisters, Roccolena (Rocky) Zito, Rose Iadone, Anna Bowser and Mary Kreilheim.
