Mr. Thomas Headen,59 of 3917 Bivins Road, Durham, NC passed on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, NC.

Rev. Thomas Headen attended Horton High, finishing in the top 5% of his class. His church roots began at Alston’s Chapel United Holy Church. Upon graduation from high school, he entered North Carolina A&T State University in 1970 majoring in Political Science, History and Engineering.
In the fall of 1971, he crossed the burning sands into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., and gained many brothers and lifetime friends.
While at school, things didn’t go quite the way he planned.
After joining the Deliverance Tabernacle Fellowship Church Ministry, he was in the midst of giving his bad habits up to the Lord, and he asked the Lord to give him a companion in returned. This prayer was answered when laid his eyes on young Miss Rosiland Vanessa Gattis who would soon be Mrs. Thomas Headen. He was called into ministry and preached his initial sermon March 26, 1980. After 10 years of service in that ministry, he felt the leading to return to the origin of his spiritual birth, Alston’s Chapel U.H.C. where he became an associate minister. Under the leadership of Elder Carrie Bolton, who saw a “Pastors Spirit” in him, he studied to achieve that office. He received the necessary ordination in the United Holy Church of America, Inc. He was a teacher in the United Christian Institute Satellite Schools in Pittsboro and Greensboro NC. He served as interim pastor at Floyd’s Temple UHC# 1 in Lumberton NC for one year, appointed pastor of Margaret Chapel UHC for several years and pastor of Obie’s Chapel UHC for 9 years where he resign due to the decline of his health. After being out of the pulpit for a year, he returned to preach his last sermon at Alston’s Chapel UHC.
He was a loving friend, a confidant, a father, a brother, a son, a mentor, a kind-hearted and caring person. A man of wise instruction and counsel. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Elder Rosilind Vanessa Headen, three sons, Nicholas DaTanion (Twanya) of Raleigh, NC; Quentin Thomas, Elijah Enoch who is in Paradise and one daughter, Karyn Headen; one grandson, his “Boompy”, Christian Thomas Headen, three sisters, Beatrice Taylor Sanford, Ethel Jones (Ed), Durham, NC, and Emeline Grissom, Durham, NC, (Two sisters preceded him in death, the late Kay Francis Lattimore and Thelma Beatrice Yarborough, two brothers, Clifton Headen, Jr. (Francis), of Rockville, MD and Sylvester Headen (Barbara) of Durham, NC; his parents by marriage, Rev.
