Reverend Sam Carter, Jr. was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Sam Carter, Sr and the late Mrs.  Dinnie Carter on April 27, 1947 in Jefferson County AL. 

He was educated in the Shelby County Alabama School System.  At an early age he received Christ and joined Union Baptist Church in Columbiana, AL under the leadership of Reverend Frederick Gambles. In 1967 he was drafted to United States Marine Corp where he served in the Vietnam War.    He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal  and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was honorably discharged with full retirement status. 

After he returned home from the Military he served as a Deacon at Union Baptist Church.  And at the age of forty two he was called into the ministry under Reverend Fredrick Gamble.  He Pastored Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Brent AL for thirteen years.

Reverend Carter was a working man. His work history spanned many industries: carpentry, landscaping, logging and the Cotton Mill industry. 

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Twanda Rena Rush on April 6, 2010.  He made his triumphant entry into Glory on November 1, 2016 at his home in Columbiana surrounded by his loving family. 

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mae Ella Brand, Ellis Ray Youngblood, Betty Jean Reynolds; One brother- Billie Joe Carter;

He leaves to cherish his memories: A loving and devoted wife, Twanda Rena Rush Carter, of Columbiana, AL; Four loving daughters; Cassandra Prentice and Bridgetta Haynes both of Columbiana, AL; Karen Powell of Calera, AL, Tenika (Tyrus) Kidd of Alabaster, AL; One devoted Son: Sam (Trina) Carter III of Calera, AL; Four Step children- Jackson Knox IV, Shondra (Montez) Carter, Sydni Knox, and Jordan Knox. Four Sisters:  Ann (Rev. Bobby) Lacy, Doris (Rev. Fate ) Bryant, Sandra Montgomery, Gwendolyn Harris; One brother: Anthony (Loretta) Carter; Four brothers-in-law- Mazell Reynolds, Russell (Regina) Rush, Jr, Christopher Rush, Jerel (Deetrice); one sister-in-law, Mary Carter; Mother-in-law-Pastor Dorothy Rush;  One special niece Cheryl Robinson Alford;  Fourteen Grandchildren, Sixteen Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who shall miss him dearly.
