Rev. Norman Harold Wasson, 78, of Flemingsburg, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, at his son’s home in Lancaster, KY after a brief illness.
Rev. Wasson was born March 1, 1939, in East Machias, Maine to the late Harold B. and Ruth M. Green Wasson.
Rev. Wasson was a graduate of Lynchburg College and Lexington Theological Seminary where he received a Masters of Divinity. While in Lynchburg College he was a student pastor at Shenandoah Christian Church and while in Lexington Theological Seminary he was a student pastor at Orangeburg Christian Church. After graduation, he accepted a position at First Christian Church in Clifton Forge, Virginia, and in 1972 accepted a position as pastor at Flemingsburg Christian Church where he remained for 34 years until his retirement in 2006.
After retirement, he took a year off from ministry and then once again accepted an interim position back at Orangeburg Christian Church which turned in to what would have been 10 years this June. Rev Wasson was a 50 year Mason having joined in Clifton Forge, Virginia and transferring his membership to the Flemingsburg Masonic Lodge #112 F&AM of which he was still an active member and was also a founding member of the Flemingsburg Rotary Club. In March of 2017 Rev. Wasson was bestowed with the honor of Minister Emeritus at Flemingsburg Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Janice Wade Wasson; 2 sons Kevin and his wife Laura Wasson of Lancaster and their children Samuel Holman, Benjamin Harold, Millie Travis, David Wade, Jonah Allen and Caroline Mae; Wade Wasson of Georgetown, and his children Sophia Nichole, Madeline Marie, Abigail Lilly; sister Nola Kelley and her husband James of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia; brother-in-law Mike Wade and his wife Karen of Roanoke, Virginia
Rev. Wasson was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Kenneth Wasson.
