Rev. J. D. Eddins, age 82, died Friday at his home following a lingering illness. Born in Chesterfield, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas Bruce and Aletha Mae Davis Eddins and was previously married to the late Ruby Eddins. Ordained into the ministry 66 years ago, he was the founder of Eddins Evangelistic Assoc. and instrumental in the organization of Campground Ministries on Topsail Island including Virginia Creek Campground Ministry, Chapel by the Bay at Surf City, Topsail RV Park at Holly Ridge and the Rogers Bay Campground. A member of Emmaus Baptist Church, he pastored many churches in our area including Calvary Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Eddins Candy Company for 35 years and known by many as “the candy man”.
