Rev. Howard Mason Mayne Jr., 87, of North Baltimore, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by those he loved.
Rev. Mayne was born on July 2, 1936 in Belpre, Ohio to the late Howard and Lucy (Brewer) Mayne. He married the love of his life Donita Giddings on October 1, 1955 and they spent 67 wonderful years together and she survives in North Baltimore. Also surviving are his children: Patricia (Robert) Schlachtun, Kathryn (Tim) VanNess, Karen Phillips and Mary (Michael) Patino; grandchildren: Brandy Mize, April (Travis) Robinson, Bryan (Irene) Sweigard, Joe (Holly Moungie) Phillips, Tony (Amber Birch) Phillips, Brenda (Jonathan) Dilgard and Sydnee Patino; great-grandchildren: Cole, Maddison, Shaun, Sutten, Saige, Brianna, Danielle, Andi, Nathan, Lucas, Tyler, Beau, Bianca, and Declan. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Sarah and siblings: Betty Patrick, Nancy Stevens and Sharon Null.
Rev. Mayne served 30 years in ministry with the United Methodist Church. He served congregations in Albany, McComb, and West Independence. When Rev. Mayne retired, he served other congregations but notably in Cygnet and Cloverdale. He was very loved as the “hillbilly” preacher. More than anything Rev. Mayne loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them.
