Rev. George William Hohmann, 90, of Ottawa, died Friday morning, January 11, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

Hohmann was born February 26, 1922, in Murphysboro, IL to Rudolph and Anna (Loos) Hohmann. He was an ordained Minister and served as the pastor of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in LaSalle. He married Verona Eloise “Ronnie” Warskow on June 8, 1945, at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church (now UCC) in Centralia, IL. Rev. Hohmann was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Ottawa, Ottawa Ministerial Association and was involved in many activities in the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Since 1987 he served as Sunday supply for area United Church of Christ churches as well as community churches. He drove for the Community Hospital Care-a-van, delivered Meals on Wheels and traveled to see his children as well as various areas of the Midwest. He attended Blackburn College, Elmhurst College, and graduated from Eden Theological Seminary, in St. Louis. He was ordained into the ministry at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ) at Carlinville, on March 17, 1946.He served Pastorates in Wisconsin and Minnesota and in southern Illinois before coming to the LaSalle church on September 1, 1970.

In addition to serving individual churches, Rev. Hohmann was active in the “larger church.” He was pastoral advisor to youth in Minnesota, where he was also chairman of Christian Education for the synod and treasurer of the Synod Council. In Illinois South Conference (UCC) he was a moderator and chairperson of the Board of Directors. He was a delegate to the General Synod of the church three times. Rev. Hohmann also served on the staff of summer church camps for 15 years. He is survived by his wife Ronnie, 3 sons; Rev. David Hohmann, of Eagan, MN, Dr. Samuel (Donna Weaver) Hohmann, of Oak Park, IL and Stephen Hohmann, of Red Bud, Illinois, 2 grandchildren and 1 niece and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by; his parents, a sister, Mariana Hohmann and a brother, Robert Hohmann.
