Rev. General Horace Couch was born in Athens, GA on July 15, 1924. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the armed services during World War II.

He served with the Ninth Infantry Division, the 47th Infantry Regiment where he fought in the battle of the bulge through Germany’s surrender. During his years of service, he received many metals and ribbons; one that he received was a distinguished Unit Badge for extraordinary heroism in action. After his years of service in the Army, he graduated from the University of Georgia and had a short career as an accountant. Rev. Couch then decided to attend the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He married Mattie Reynolds on Dec. 25, 1954, and was ordained into the ministry in 1955 as a United Methodist minister. The ministry took him to many places where he enjoyed serving our Lord and Savior. Rev. Couch served the church through the North Georgia Conference until his retirement in 1990. Rev. Couch served our God and walked daily with the Holy Spirit.
