Rev. Dr. Harold ‘Hap’ D. Carrier, 62

Brunswick – Rev. Dr. Harold ‘Hap’ D. Carrier, 62, of Sage Hill Lane Brunswick died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.

Born and raised in Troy, he was son of the late Earl (Bud) Carrier and Catherine (Cappy) Ellis Carrier. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1965. He continued his love of education by receiving a BA degree from Niagara University, a Masters degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, two PhD degrees from SUNY and RPI, a Masters of Theology and a Masters of Divinity Degree from St. Bernard’s Institute in Rochester.

For the past six years, Fr. Carrier was Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Troy. He also was a member of the Commission on Ministry and the former Vicar of All Saints Church in Hoosick for three years. He was a Professor of Management at the State University of New York at Albany and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Since 1989 he was President of the Board of the Hudson Mohawk Recovery Center and was named Vice Chairman of the Board of the Diocesan Counseling Center. He was also a former member of the Board of Bethany Center and member of the High Tech Council at RPI. Hap enjoyed spending time with his numerous friends and enjoyed photography, cooking, writing poetry, oil painting and his beloved New York Yankees.

Survivors include two sisters, Earlene Topper of Troy and Marianne (Joseph) MacCaffrey of Greenfield, MA and a brother, John J. (Dawn) Carrier of North Adams, MA. He is also survived by his nieces, Bethany Topper and Jenna (Sean) Hanratty and nephews, Conor MacCaffrey and David Carrier and beloved cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends may call at Saint John’s Episcopal Church on Monday from 4-8PM.
