The Rev. Charles Ellis Howell, a native and resident of the Prestwick community of Leroy, entered into eternity on Nov. 29, 2020 while at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile. Charles was born July 1, 1947 to Emma Purify and Richard Howell Sr. He attended Prestwick High School, worked various jobs and served his country in the United States Army. A faithful member of St. Union Baptist Church of Leroy, he served as an associate minister. Charles enjoyed attending various church programs, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid Leroy Bears and Alabama Crimson Tide fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Berry Howell Jr.; and sisters, Betty Howell, Lucy Howell, Flora Howell and Lula Williams.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Christina (Elbert) Sims of Leroy; two brothers, Richard (Christina) Howell Jr. of Marietta, Ga., and James Howell of Leroy; five sisters, Bernice (William) Spencer of Mobile, Fannie Howell of New York, N.Y., Dixie Taylor and Emma (J.C.) Simon, both of Leroy, and Nancy Howell of Butler; three grandchildren, Jacqueline (Eric) Steele, Devonta Sims and Kierra Sims; one step-granddaughter, Janiyah Legget; six great-grandchildren; one devoted nephew, Juan Howell; devoted nieces, Carol Howell and Peggy Howell; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
