Rev. Alf E. Anderson, 95, of Ashland, IL died Friday, February 12, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.
He was born January 7, 1915 in Chicago, IL; the son of Arnt and Justine Johansen Anderson. He married Betty Parkes on August 19, 1951 in Champaign, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Roger Anderson (wife, Martha) of Pleasant Plains; two daughters, Kathryn Anderson of Rushville and Rev. Mary Ellen Sharp (husband, Jeff) of Springfield; three grandchildren, Ryan Anderson (wife, Carrie) of Jacksonville, Glen Anderson of Pleasant Plains, and Emily Sharp of Springfield; a great grandchild, Esme Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Stenseng, and a brother, Roy A. Anderson.
Rev. Anderson received a ThB degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL in 1942, a BA degree from Baylor University, Waco, TX in 1944, and a BD degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1945. He was ordained to Christian ministry on April 28, 1943. He pastored churches in Wisconsin and Illinois including Berea Christian Church, south of Prentice, First Baptist Church of Rosewood Heights, and First Baptist Church of Ashland.
He owned and operated Anderson Jewelry and Fine Watch Repair in Ashland from 1955 to 1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ashland. An accomplished and gifted pianist, Alf authored many articles for the Ashland Sentinel, enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics, and faithfully exercised at the Fit Club in Springfield for many years.
