Mr. Reuben J. Boyd, Sr.,86, peacefully departed from his earthly labor on Friday, June 6, 2014 following a brief illness. Reuben was born on October 10, 1927 in High Point, to the late Clark S. Boyd and Hazel Cole Boyd. He was a graduate of Florence High School. On September 12, 1949 he married the love of his life, Reverend Earline Randleman Boyd. Their union produced seven children and they were married fifty-nine years. “PaPa”, as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, was a committed husband and devoted provider to his children. Many people enjoyed his loyalty as a friend and his humorous nature will be missed. His hobbies included horseback riding, and buying and using tools to work around the family home. Mr. Boyd was employed with Guilford County as a Buildings Maintenance Administrator for over forty years. Fraternally he was a member of 712 Florence Memorial Masonic Lodge, PHA. He was a lifelong member of Turners Chapel AME Church where he served actively as a Steward, Trustee, and member of the Male Choir.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Reverend Earline R. Boyd preceded him in death.
Surviving relatives include seven children, Bonnie Mingo of Arlington, VA, Reverend Reuben J. Boyd, Jr. (Sonja) of Richmond, VA, Phyllis Denny (Donald), Enice Ingram (Reginald), M. Keither Strickland, Larry R. Boyd of Greensboro, and Beverly Gibson (David); fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one brother, Reverend Johnny G. Boyd of High Point; two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
