Retta A. Hanselman, 99 of West Bend died December 18, 2019 at the West Bend Care Center. Retta Struecker, the daughter of Emma Kroeger and William Struecker was born December 22, 1919 in Whittemore, IA where she was raised and received her education. She was united in marriage to Alvin Hanselman on February 22, 1941. The couple lived and farmed in the West Bend area their entire married lives. Survivors include her children: Genese (Dave) Wiehle of Maple Park, Illinois, Sharon (Jim) Forney of Pierre, South Dakota, Dean Hanselman of Temecula, California, Marlene (A.J.) Metzger of Boulder, Colorado and Terry (Pam) Hanselman of West Bend, IA, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, siblings: Alice Wehrspann of Fort Dodge, IA, Willis Struecker of Whittemore, IA and Janice Peterson of Moorland, IA. Retta was a life long member of Peace Lutheran Church of West Bend. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, spoiling them with her chocolate chip cookies and chicken noodle soup. She was an avid gardener and quilter, dedicating many years making quilts for world relief. Retta was a fierce card player and was always up for a game of Canasta. She also enjoyed coloring and putting jigsaw puzzles together. Preceding her in death were her husband, Alvin in 2002, son Wayne in 2012, and siblings: Glen, Clarence, Carl, Esther, Elda, Howard, Norman, Alden and Gordon.
