D’Annunzio RESCHEDULE1944~2021Gabriel “Gabe”, age 76, on Jan. 24, 2021 of Newtown Square, formerly of Wynewood, PA.Gabriele had thousands of friendships, customers and acquaintances that spanned over six decades. I am proud and humbled to be one that he called a true friend. But. that’s how Gabe made everyone feel, ‘special’. If you met him in his store or in a restaurant you were treated as if you were the most important person in the world. By the way, when he saw you in a restaurant at another table, he always asked the waiter to give him your check. No fanfare just a quiet recognition to you that you were work Gabe was King. He greeted all with that great smile that big open arm hug and when children came in Gabe was down on one knee to welcome them and be sure they knew candy and cookies were there for the taking. Gabe was a man of many passions. The greatest was his enduring love for Carole with whom he travelled the world, dined at the finest restaurants, and built a beautiful life together. As a master craftsman he dressed some of the best known and wealthiest over generations. The placard on the inside of the jacket proudly displaying the name of the owner and the artist by whom it was created… GABRIELE D’ANNUNZIO. His passion for Villanova basketball was obvious to all who entered his store where a championship ball and pictures with Gabe and the Villanova team are on prominent was a man of great courage, conviction, unlimited kindness, and motivation. Always striving to do better and explore new opportunities, he drove himself and others to that elusive pinnacle of perfection. On that seldom occasion of a tag mix up on dry cleaning he would say “I need to have a meeting with the girls” To all of us Gabe was quite the imposing figure. He stood out in any crowd. The beautiful white hair, of which he was immensely proud. The classic Italian shoes which when he found just the right style purchased six pair. The trademark glasses which he bought in four different colors so they would complement various color you stood next to him you felt like the before picture and he was the after picture in Esquire magazine. If you looked closely at this meticulously dressed man and at the perfectly coordinated cravat what caught your eye was the scissor tie bar which he wore daily. Gabe was NOT a jeans and tee shirt kinda guy.Leaving Italy at age twelve he arrived in a new land with a new language and culture. He grew through a troubled childhood to become a leader and innovator in his profession and a beloved member of his the true Italian tradition Gabe loved his espresso and put his hand to cooking meals at home and was very proud, and surprised, at the are all better for knowing this fine man. He showed us the way to strive toward perfection. Jerry and Sandy CanavanSurvived by his wife Carolyn T. (nee Matteo), his brother Carmen, nephew John, and niece Kristen.
