Reg Cummins, 68, of Jacksonville, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at his residence. He was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Jacksonville, the son of Henry Franklin and Eleanor M. Kinnett Cummins.
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Woods of Jacksonville; longtime companion Sara Bourn of Jacksonville; daughter, Lisa Cummins of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; and sister, Lucy B. (Jack) Terrill of South Jacksonville. He is also survived by Sara’s children, Chris, Brad (Gladys) and Brenda Bourn; and her four grandchildren.
Mr. Cummins was a 1960 graduate of Jacksonville High School and then received his Associate’s Degree in Administration of Justice from MacMurray College. He spent 23 years as a police officer with the City of Jacksonville, retiring in 1983. He then went to work for the city inspection department as a Property Maintenance Inspector, retiring from there in 1994.
Reg was a member of the Jacksonville Moose Lodge and had helped organize the initial Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in Jacksonville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and also served seven years in the Air National Guard in Springfield. He enjoyed drag racing, camping and especially having a good time.
