Refugio “Marty” Martinez, age 74 of Hope, passed away on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Luz and Maria (Martinez) Martinez was born on December 3, 1942 In Swartz Creek MI.
He was raised in Flint MI. and Riverside, CA before coming to Midland in 1972. On December 1, 1962, Refugio married the former Diana L. Ackley. She predeceased him on April 26, 2014. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. Refugio worked for Chemical Leaman Tankline as a truck driver before retiring in 2000. He dearly loved his wife of 51 years. He enjoyed fishing with his children and friends, traveling, family get togethers, the casino, and playing cards.
Refugio is survived by his son Refugio “Marty” Martinez and girlfriend Jennifer Clouse of Sanford; Daughter Shawn Martinez of Lansing; Grandchildren Stacy, Peaches, Dakota, Jewel, and Sparty; Brothers Frank Martinez, James (Lynn) Martinez, Joseph (Marilyn) Martinez, and Jesse Martinez; Sisters Beatrice Martinez, and Virginia (Robert) Johnson; and dear friends Chris Collison, Don and Geri Weber, Tom and Florence Brubacher.
In addition to his wife, Refugio was predeceased by five of his siblings.
