Dr. William Rees Buttram, 65, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011. Surrounded by his family, he died peacefully at home in Chattanooga. Rees leaves behind a lot of people who love him and whom he loved. Among these are his much-cherished wife, Mary Lynn Curtis Buttram (Diddy); his daughter, Christine Ann Buttram (Chris); son, William Buttram Rees (Will); daughter-in-law, Maura Rees; granddaughters, Bridget and Madeleine Rees; Chris and Will’s mother, Terri Buttram Wright; sisters, Carolyn Buttram Turner (Katie) and Barbara Buttram Black (Jo); siblings-in-law, David Black, Cathy and Steve Chesney, Sammie and Bob Shanks, and Bo and Laurie Curtis; mother-in-law, Lou Curtis; some wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins; many appreciated friends and colleagues; and his cat, Wiggins. His beloved parents, Dr. William Ross Buttram, Jr., (Bill) and Mrs. Lee Rees Buttram, preceded him in death, as did his father-in-law, Mr. Keith Curtis; several other relatives and several close friends whom Rees remembered fondly; and Rosie, Polly, and Gracie, his greatly loved English pointers. Rees attended Bright and McCallie Schools, Emory University, and the University of Chattanooga. He received his medical degree from and did his residency at the University of Tennessee, where he was awarded membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was Board certified as a diagnostic radiologist by the American College of Radiologists. Rees served as a doctor in the U.S. Air Force at Eglin AFB in Florida. His medical career took him then to Knoxville and back to Chattanooga.
