Rebecca “Becky” Sue Thompson, age 68 of Hope, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister was with her friends and family when she passed away at Mid-Michigan Medical Center on April 10th. 2013. The daughter of the late Jack and Lola (Burkey) Williams was born May 26th 1944 at Midland hospital; this is the same hospital as she passed way at. Becky was raised in Midland and graduated from Midland High school in 1962.

She graduated from Alma College 1966 and then from Case Western University 1968 with a Masters Degree in Social Work. Becky met her late husband Dean Thompson in Woodstock IL. After marrying on June 18th 1970 Dean and Becky had a daughter, Michelle (Shelley) born in 1974 and shortly after they moved to a farm in Saranac Michigan, where they had a son Henry (Hank) who was born in 1977. Becky worked for Community Mental Health from 1985 until 1995 then had a private practice, DeWitt Counseling, until 2001. During this time Becky also taught at Lansing Community College.

It was something she had always wanted to do and highly enjoyed. After living in Detroit for less than a year Becky moved back to her cottage on the lake and started working at Family and Children Services in 2003 until her retirement in 2007. Family and Children Services is the first place Becky had worked at as a volunteer in her social work career. Becky’s husband (Dean) passed away in 2007. Shortly afterwards she travelled to England, Scotland, and Ireland with her son in 2008. Becky made frequent trips to Columbus, Ohio where her daughter lived. She was part of a quilting group and a reading club.

Becky enjoyed both activities and friends. The best new joy for Becky was her new grandchildren, in February of 2012, when her son married. They brought her great joy and she was very excited to have them in her life. Becky is survived by her children, Hank (Michelle) Thompson of Grand Rapids, MI and Shelley Thompson and her domestic partner, Richard Tepper of Columbus, Ohio; siblings, Larry Williams and Katie Dutcher of Hope, MI sister in law, Sue Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Ryan, and Nathan Huizinga, and many nieces and nephews.
