Rebecca Anne Kirkwood charmingly known as Peaches was born on August 13, 1951. Thereafter she was adopted by two loving parents Ethel Chapman and Solomon Kirkwood. Rebecca spent her childhood in Harlem New York and moved to Saint Albans, Queens, New York. Peaches had always wanted a sister and on her seventh birthday her prayers were answered when her sister Mary, lovingly known as Honey, was born.
Rebecca attended junior high school 192 and then went on to Francis Lewis high school. She had a large number of friends during her years in high school where she met and befriended Gerald Mark Goins whom she maintained a friendship through high school graduation. Rebecca took time off out of high school to discover herself, loves, and passions.
Peaches loved to play cards, Bid whist at that. Her legacy of talking smack and taking names while playing her favorite game will sorely be missed, but remain in our hearts forever. Rebecca always loved helping people and became a phlebotomist after graduating as a medical laboratory technician in 1976. Rebecca at times could be the life of a party.
After deciding that education was the best way for her to have the most that she wanted out of life Rebecca then enrolled into the college of Staten Island and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. Peaches’ love for helping people grew even more when she decided to work for an all boys group home. She was blessed with her first and only child Rashida Ayanna Goins July 20th 1983.
Rebecca didn’t stay home for long because of her strongly held commitment to being a juvenile counselor for the department of juvenile justice (DJJ). She impacted countless lives and developed many lasting relationships with her coworkers over her 25 years of service.
Peaches talent for singing grew and her favorite pass time, singing in the Jackson chorus did as well. Serving in her purpose, Rebecca became a member of the pastors aide Ministry in 2011 and two years later she was then consecrated as a Deaconess of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Jamaica NY under the leadership of Reverend Christopher Neil Howard on May 4, 2013.
Peaches continued to touch many lives in her 70 years on this earth. Her love for her daughter, family, friends, and church family was undeniable.
Peaches took her last breath on November 4th 2021. Rebecca leaves to mourn her daughter Rashida, Sisters Mary and Leola; Nephews James and Melvin; Great nieces Shakai and Samiah; Great nephews Jayden and Jaceon and Godmother Shirley Brown, her children of the heart Melanie, Aliya, Amarie and a host of other relatives and friends.
So as we mourn Peaches, we are forever indebted to her Lord for sharing his Angel.
