With the deepest sorrow, we announce our beloved daughter, Rebecca “Dawn” Smith, left this world on July 24, 2020, as a result of complications with Juvenile Diabetes that she battled with courage and quiet dignity for most of her life.
Dawn loved animals and had several pets. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and listening to music. She enjoyed watching movies and had several favorites in the comedy genre. She enjoyed eating out whenever possible with a preference for seafood. She loved her family deeply and she loved her daughters who she lovingly referred to as “the girls.” She spoiled them and taught them to respect others. She was funny and enjoyed laughing and joking with family and friends. Dawn’s beautiful smile and caring personality will be sorely missed. Though Dawn was petite, she was a fierce advocate for the underdog and defended those she felt were mistreated or bullied.
When you think of Dawn, celebrate the good memories you have of her. Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest and never taken for granted.
Dawn was preceded in death by her grandparents Willie and Rosie Smith and her daughter, Samazhae L. Smith. She leaves behind her parents, Rita and David Saleem, daughters Jamaya Williams and Armani Smith, a grandson, Horatio, an Aunts Denise Smith and Karen Coleman, an Uncles Robert Smith and Walt Coleman, a close cousin that was like a brother to her, Demetrice Smith, and a host of cousins and friends.
