Reatha DeWees Demps, age 75, of Delphi passed away May 19, 2010 at Clarian Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, IN after a 12 day illness.
She was born in Rensselaer on October 7, 1934, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Jesse (Hall) DeWees. Reatha was raised in Rensselaer and was a 1953 graduate of Rensselaer High School. She had lived in Gary, IN, Mountain Home, AR, Crossville, TN before moving to Delphi seven years ago. For 30 years Reatha was employed as a cook at the Lake Ridge Middle School in Gary, IN. She was a member of the Calvary Temple in Monticello, IN. Her marriage was August 8, 1953 in Rensselaer to James F. Demps who survives.
She is also survived by three children, Cheryl (Carl) Mathews, St. John, IN, Gregory (Lori) Demps, Portage, IN and Lori (John) Alexander, Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Richard (Jane) DeWees, Lebanon, IN and Carroll (Alice) DeWees, Broken Arrow, OK and two sisters, Connie (Dan) Kasper, Lake County, IN and Linda (Carlin) Kindig, Kentland, IN Reatha was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Betty Ames, Rose Ann Nagel and Shirley Wheat and three brothers, Leonard, Malvin and Windfield DeWees.
