Raymond W. Hinck, Colonel, USAF (retired), passed away Friday, November 6, at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Raymond was born in 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in West Nyack, NY. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941 where he became a pilot flying B-24 Liberator bombers out of Italy. After the war, he spend a short time working as a banker in New York City before being recalled to military duty to fly transport aircraft in the Korean War. He subsequently decided that the United States Air Force was his calling and remained on active duty for a total of 33 years before retiring to Niceville in 1975. During his time in the military, his assignments included Tennessee, Oklahoma, Japan, Okinawa, Virginia, the Philippines, Rhode Island, North Carolina, and Thailand before concluding his career at Eglin AFB. After military retirement, he assumed the duties of the USAF Junior ROTC instructor and senior class advisor at Niceville High School until 1987. Ever since moving to the Niceville area, he has been active as a volunteer fireman, fire station chief, treasurer and fire commissioner for both the Niceville Fire Department and East Niceville Fire district.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; son Marc, daughter-in-law Susan, and granddaughters Rachel and Emma.
