Raymond Schroeder, 64, of Union Pier, Michigan, is at peace with no pain in his heavenly home after a lengthy battle with illness. He passed away on February 19, 2015 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.Ray was born September 15, 1950 in Michigan City, Indiana to Benjamin and Wanda (Sulek) Schroeder.
He grew up in Union Pier, and would often go the short distance to Lake Michigan, exploring the water and beaches with his brothers and friends. Ray graduated from River Valley High School in 1968 and continued his education at Western Michigan University and Michigan State University, which he really loved. He taught at Chikaming Elementary School, combining his love of sports with his lesson plans. He enjoyed taking his students to see his favorite team, the Chicago White Sox. Ray was a member of the Black Sox Wiffle Ball team, playing in tournaments and going on to play in the Wiffle Ball World Series.
He liked to spend time in Florida and Kentucky, but most of all in his hometown of Union Pier and on the shores of Lake Michigan.Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Cindy Schroeder of Baroda, his fiancé©e, Harlen Heppler and her daughter Heather and grand-daughters, Kaiah and Penelope; and his nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, nephew John and Harlen’s son Paul.
