Raymond E. McDonald Jr., 64, of Ashland, IL died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at St. Johnâ??s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
He was born April 16, 1945 in Springfield, IL; the son of Raymond Edward Sr. and Margaret D. â??Maggie” Tinsley McDonald. He married Jeanne Giffhorn on December 29, 1979 in Highland, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Brian McDonald of Ashland; a brother, John McDonald of Macomb; a niece, Meghann McDonald of Macomb; and a nephew, Shea McDonald serving with the military in Afghanistan.
Mr. McDonald was a 1963 graduate of Ashland High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Oscar Meyer in Beardstown for 18 years and for a brief period with Excel in Beardstown. He was currently employed with the Illinois EPA in Springfield in his 20th year. He was a member of VFW Post #3546 where he served as Commander. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
