Raymond M. Calvin Jr., 87, of New Whiteland, passed away Monday Jan. 18, 2016 in Indianapolis.
Ray was born Jan. 1, 1929 in Indianapolis to Ray and Mamie (Alberts) Calvin.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran where he served as a gunner’s mate on LSM #362.
Ray married Margaret Ann (Wathen) Scott on June 28, 2003 in Greenwood; they were married for 12 years.
He was employed as a diesel mechanic for Kibler Trucking. After retiring in 1987, he was a vendor at 4-H fairs and flea markets.
In Ray’s earlier days he was a fireman for Bunker Hill Volunteer Fire Department, an open wheel race car driver, a volunteer with Marion County Handicappers Club and a member of the Silver Hills Riding Club, where he enjoyed riding horses.
More recently Ray enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and flea marketing.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local # 135, the Good Sam Rolling Wheels, Chapter 18 and Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Calvin of New Whiteland, nine children, Marcus Calvin, Rosalie (Steve) Thomas, Douglas Scott and Michelle Calvin all of Indianapolis, Rick Calvin and Pam Pelton both of Spencer, Catherine Scott of Bremerton, Washington, David (Sherry) Scott of Greenwood and Rebecca Haaff of Carmel, two sisters, Mary Stuart of Indianapolis and Frances Henley of Tennessee, a brother, Arthur “Butch” (Kathy) Calvin of Linton,13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Tracey Jensen, two brothers, Robert and Richard Calvin and three sisters, Phyllis Michels, Katherine Calvin and Connie Garrett.
