Raymond Bilsborough, age 92, of Algona, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Algona Good Samaritan Care Center.
Raymond Gus Bilsborough, the son of Floyd and Bertha (Collinson) Bilsborough, was born on July 12, 1921 in Algona, Iowa. He graduated from Algona High School in 1942. Ray served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was part of the invasion of Normandy. On December 30, 1961 Ray was united in marriage with Patricia Ward in Algona. He had worked as a custodian for the Algona Community Schools for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He also taught drums for the High School Band while he was a custodian. Ray was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where he had served as a Deacon. He was also a life time member of the VFW. Ray enjoyed music and took part in the Algona City Band. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking and wood working.
Left to cherish Ray’s memory is his wife of 52 years, Patricia; two daughters, Sandra Williams and her husband Mark of Champaign, IL and Laurie Zook and her husband Lance of Cedar Rapids; a sister, June Decker of Hudson, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Adeline Oberlander and Joyce Lappe; and a brother, Charles Bilsborough.
