Raymond F. Yahnke, 84, of Freeport, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Medina Nursing Center in Durand. Born December 20, 1920 in Freeport he was the son of Herman and Marie (Stork) Yahnke. He married Edna M. Grabow June 27, 1942 in Coleman, Texas.

A World War II veteran he taught flying for the Army Air Corps during the war. After the war he was one of the people who opened Albertus Airport and flew the first airplane into Albertus. He taught flying at Albertus and was one of the first federal flight examiners. He started the fly in breakfast at the airport. He then taught flying with Anderson Air Activities at Malden Air Force Base in Malden, Missouri. He then worked at Kelly Springfield Tire Company for many years. He then owned and operated Galaxy Photo in Freeport for several years.

Surviving is his wife, Edna of Freeport; two sons, Thomas (Maureen) Yahnke Sr. of Freeport and Richard (Brenda) Yahnke of Ridott; 1 sister, Deloris Burkhalter of Freeport; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Raymond Yahnke, Jr.
