Ray left this world peacefully and entered eternal life on February 15, 2021 having spent the last year at home under Hospice care. Ray was born in Ft. Morgan, Colorado to the late Maurice and Marie Van De Weghe. He was preceded in death by brother Maurice Van De Weghe and sister Helen Truitt. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan, and his children Louise (John), Matthew (Katie), David (Julie), and Benjamin. Grandchildren Luke, Lynn, and Kylie will cherish their memories of Papa who played an important role in their earliest childhoods. Friends knew Ray as a hard-working family man, honest, witty, and selfless. Integrity was his byword. He loved children and spent many happy hours encouraging his to do their best by being involved in their activities, especially Scouting. Upon graduation from the University of Colorado, Ray proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. Returning home, he worked as a CPA for Price Waterhouse in Chicago where he met Joan. Later he worked at North Carolina National Bank (now Bank America) and as Executive Vice President and Controller of the Huntington National Bank. The arts were of special interest to Ray as Treasurer of Opera Columbus in its initial years. He and Joan were season ticket-holders of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for more than 40 years. Ray was a devout Catholic supporting St. Andrew Catholic Church in many ways. Ray’s family appreciates the excellent care he received from National Church Residences and especially Vicki and Chad.
