Raymond Earl Pickel, 86, of Boerne, passed away on Saturday, May, 2, 2020.

Raymond was born December 20, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to Herman and Nora Green Pickel. He was married for 66 years to Patricia Cantrell Pickel, and they had two children, Linda and Richard. In his spare time he enjoyed time with his family, hunting and fishing.

At 22 years of age he was diagnosed with polio. Despite becoming partially paralyzed, Raymond never allowed it to slow him down. He retired from Armco National Supply where he built some of the largest steel plants in the world in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Singapore, Taught engineering at Rice University, and Texas Tech University, and was the Chairman of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), He won the SME National Award of Merit in 1978 ; after retirement he owned and operated Machinery Consultants Inc, where he designed, patented and oversaw fabrication of many machines still in use today.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Patricia Cantrell Pickel; his children, Linda Pickel Fielder and Richard Allen Pickel; his grandchildren, Keri Fielder Jackson and spouse Ken, Matthew Fielder and spouse Kandice, and Kristy and Kelli Pickel; his great-grandchildren, Kacey, Kade, and Kambry Jackson, and Kathleen and Madelyn Fielder; and his brother Douglas Pickel and spouse Linda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Nora Green Pickel, and his older brother Joseph Pickel.
