He died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born July 21, 1934, in Bethlehem Township, Cass County, he was the son of Frank and Pearl Reid Hayden. He was married May 25, 1963, in Logansport, to Judy Webster, who survives.

Ray was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. He served as a machinist’s mate aboard the USS Midway from 1953 to 1955. He also served aboard the USS John R. Craig from 1956 to 1957 as a machinist’s mate 3rd class.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, and the American Legion Post 60. He enjoyed the club dances and dinners at the Posts.

Ray was a 1953 graduate of Metea High School, where he was class vice-president.

Ray had been employed from 1980 until his retirement in 1999 as a boiler fireman at Delco Electronics in Kokomo. He was a member of the UAW Local 292.

During the late 1950s, he had been employed at RBM Manufacturing and as a meter reader for the City of Logansport. From 1963 to 1980, he was employed as assistant chief engineer for Logansport Municipal Utilities.

Ray enjoyed his family and friends, traveling and the Metea Class of 1953 quarterly reunion dinners, which he organized. He will be very deeply and sorrowfully missed by all who knew and loved him. Ray had a smile, a few jokes and a laughter that was absolutely infectious. He will forever be remembered for his dedication to his wife and family. His commitment to the human spirit made him a great role model.

Also surviving are daughters, Melissa “Missy” Alcala and her fiancAC., Scott Stebbins, Logansport, and Trina and Sean Gleeson, New Vienna, Ohio; mother-in-law, Frances Webster, Logansport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Linda Hayden, Logansport, and Larry and Judy Hayden, Cicero; one sister, Virginia Conn, Logansport; grandchildren, Conor Alcala and Adam Alcala, Logansport, Breanne Gleeson and Dylan Gleeson, New Vienna, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Jack Girton, and Margaret and John Chapman, and brother-in-law, Clayton Conn, preceded in death.
