Raymond Clifford Davis, age 59, died at his home on Saturday, May 30, 2015.
Ray was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on November 23, 1955. He is the oldest child of Franklin Delano Davis and Loretta Marie Wunsch (both deceased).
Ray’s father was in the military and the family moved all over the world. When his parents divorced, his mother moved Ray and his siblings to Oregon. Ray took his responsibilities as the oldest child very seriously. He watched over his brothers and sister, caring for them when his mother could not.
Ray graduated from high school in Oregon in 1974 and joined the Navy. Ray loved serving his country. He successfully completed Navy Seal training. He traveled all over the world with the Navy but spent most of his time in South Korea and there he achieved the rank of Radioman, First Class. While serving in South Korea, Ray contracted a parasite which began the slow and relentless decline of his health. Ray was honorably discharged from the Navy on April 1, 1993.
While he served in the Navy, Ray married Teresa J. Bell. They had two sons, Benjamen Anthony Davis (Jacksonville, Florida) and Adam Joseph Davis (deceased in 2001). Ray and Teresa divorced in 1986. After the Navy, Ray settled in San Diego where he began a 24 year career as an operations manager at Edison Nuclear Power Plant of California. In 1992 Ray gained custody of his sons who were living with their mother and took them to San Diego to live with him. He has a deep love for his sons and was forever grateful he had those years with them.
In 1995 Ray married Carol E. Hromadka (deceased 2004). Ray then retired to Idaho in 2004 where he settled in Meridian and met and married his current wife, Diane Elaine Peterson Goodsell in 2008.
Ray liked classic cars and his prized possession was his restored 1966 Chevy Caprice. His ideal day was spent fishing. He also loved to go shooting and ride motorcycles. His dog, Buttons, was his true companion. He was never happier than when he was sitting in his recliner with his two dogs in his lap. Ray had a crusty exterior but he was a marshmallow inside. He had an iron will and did everything on his own terms. He was honorable, generous and stoic. Above all, and in his own words, “I loved serving my country and I am a patriot.” He will be greatly missed.
Ray was preceded in death by his son, Adam Joseph Davis; his brother, Michael Edward Davis; his parents;
and his grandparents.
Ray is survived by Diane Elaine Davis (wife), Benjamen Anthony Davis (son), Isaac Miles Davis (grandson), Jasmine Jane Davis (granddaughter), Korben Adam Davis (grandson), Franklin Delano Davis II (brother), Shelby Kornish (sister), and Dixie Wunsch (aunt).
