Raymond Castellari, age 97 of Centralia, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 surrounded by his two daughters. Raymond was born on November 8, 1919 in Centralia, the son of Antonio Castellari and Maria (Orlandini) Castellari. He married Ileen Vogt on August 19, 1946 in Marion County and she preceded him in death on November 17, 2015.
Raymond is survived by two daughters, Barbara Castellari of Centralia, IL and Janet Russell of Iuka, IL; one sister: Louisa Marcum of Centralia; one son-in-law Bill Orrill of Godfrey, IL; one sister-in-law Gladys Atchison of Centralia; six grandchildren Lori Brown and husband Jim, Kerry Ney and husband Pete, Mike Russell and wife Stacey, Matthew Russell and wife Marianne, Christy Hunter and husband John, and Marla Ticknor and husband Rob; eleven great-grandchildren, Amanda Wallace, Leah Reed, Alex Ney, Hunter Russell, Parker Russell, Mya Russell, Reuben Hunter, Abby Hunter, Grace Ticknor, Olivia Ticknor and Vincent Ney; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and the extended Gherardini family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Orrill; eight brothers and sisters; two sister-in-laws: Martha Gherardini and Gertrude Simmons; one brother-in-law: Raymond Vogt.
Raymond was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ. He served his country in WWII in the Marines and was a Purple Heart recipient. He enjoyed playing cards, playing bocce ball, going hunting and fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed the company of his dogs. Most of all he was very devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
