On Thursday, June 6, 2013, Col Raymon Carrol “Scotty” Scott, U.S. Air Force retired, passed away peacefully at age 83 in the loving arms of his wife of 54 years, Willa Smith “Scooter” Scott.
Scotty was born on August 13, 1929 in Benton County, Mississippi. He graduated from Mississippi State University and in 1951 embarked on a 26 year military career. He served honorably as a US Air Force Fighter/Reconnaissance pilot including instructor duty and multiple combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. His honors and decorations included the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal, among others. He has made his home in Shalimar since his retirement in 1977.
Following his Air Force career, Scotty became an instructor for 10 years at the Fort Walton Beach Vocational-Technical Institute.
In addition to his wife, Col Scott is survived by his sons, Will (wife Veva) and Bert, and grandchildren James and Katy. Scotty loved his family, faith, friends (the Red Shirt Men), flying, fishing and the United States Air Force.
