Ray William “Sonny” Dickman, 85, of Meredosia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Aug. 26, 1927, the son of Harry and Vera McDannold.
He is survived by his grandson, Christopher Travis Ray (Emily) Barfield of White Hall; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Bradley Barfield; three brothers, Bob Dickman of Meredosia, Ted (Lynn) Dickman of Columbia, MO, and Royce “Butch” Dickman of Baylis; and one sister, Sue Toland of Rushville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Teresa Marie Barfield (surviving husband Roger of Meredosia); and two brothers, Carl Dickman and Wayne Dickman (surviving wife Erna of Jacksonville).
Early in his life, Mr. Dickman was a pipefitter. He then began work as a union construction laborer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Lutheran faith. As a young man, he loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed Cardinals baseball and Rams Football. Sonny loved his family, and especially loved his grandson and great-grandchildren.
