Ray J. Hacker, 89, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehab.
He was born Nov. 23, 1922, near Arenzville, the son of Julius F. and Olive Fern Ore Hacker. He married Pearl Elizabeth Sunderland on Feb. 28, 1943, near Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by his niece, Joanne Rogers of Jacksonville and her family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Opal Hacker; and a sister, Esther, in infancy.
Mr. Hacker grew up on the family farm and attended an old-fashioned one-room country schoolhouse. He left the farm in 1960 when he and his brother Opal started their business, Hacker Bros. Home Improvement, and retired in 2000. He was an active member as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Jacksonville. Ray’s hobbies were music and fast-pitch softball. He liked to study and research the Bible.
