Ray C. Snyder, age 87, of Salem, died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at his home. He was born June 17, 1929 in Salem, Ohio, son of the late Fred W. and Mary (Fuller) Snyder.
Ray retired in 1991 with 35 years of service as an engineer with the E.W. Bliss Co. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Sunday school class, the church Joy Club, and was an usher. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique furniture and golfed in the Hyde-A-Way Golf League.
He was a 1947 graduate of Salem High School and held a Bachelors of Science degree from Youngstown University.
Ray served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Donna R. (Leipper) Snyder whom he married November 27, 1949. A daughter, Brenda Frantz of Birmingham, Alabama; two sons: Michael (Nancy) Snyder of Afton NY, and Gary (Megan) Snyder of Akron; one sister, Nina Wisler of Salem; three brothers, Dr. Frank (Paulette) Snyder of Albuquerque NM, Emmor F. “Fritz” Snyder of Girard, and Robert (Cathy) Snyder of Gainesville FL; and eight grandchildren, Wendy Frantz Bivins, Kathryn Frantz Browstein, Margaret Frantz, Julie Snyder, Brooklyn Snyder, Kyle Snyder, Liz Cowperthwaite, and Molly Cowperthwaite; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Phillips.
