Raul B. Rojas, July 18, 1931 – June 4, 2011.
Raul Barrientos Rojas On June 4, 2011 a son and hero of Texas, Raul Barrientos Rojas of Temple, passed away while in Hospice care in Temple. Raul was born July 18, 1931 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Jovita and Macedonio Rojas, and five other loving and caring uncles and aunts. Raul fell in love and married his devoted wife Ellen, 53 years ago in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Together they shared their love with everyone they met in life, and they enjoyed camping, traveling, Mexican food, good steaks, chorizo in the morning, coffee, avocados, “Dancing with the Stars”, lounging in Hawaii, and going on cruises. They were known to be world class ballroom dancers – for many years as Raul taught dance at Arthur Murray as a part-time job early in his life. Yet at the end of his life journey his thoughts were focused on his family, their love, and he leaves this life without regrets. Raul lived many of his years in service to his country with the majority of his time dedicated to the United States Air Force. While fighting in the Vietnam War he earned the Bronze Star with clusters twice for heroism. Like many men that fought in that war the price was high with the memory of battle following him to his last days.
The many stations he moved his family over the years included Fort Worth, Texas; Fairbanks, Alaska – during the big earthquake; Altus, Oklahoma; Tucson, Arizona; Lakenheath, England; and finally Colorado Spring, Colorado – heaven on earth. During the years when Raul wasn’t in constant pain from a debilitating back injury he enjoyed his passion for hunting and fishing. He had a gift for numbers and turned this into a pursuit for a college degree in accounting, and a part time career in tax preparation. With the advent of accounting and tax preparation software, much of his time was spent shuffling diskettes and fighting with unruly printers and internet connections.
Raul is the last of his immediate family and is preceded in death by his parents, brother Joaquin Rojas and sister Argelia Liara. He is survived by wife Ellen Rojas of Temple, daughter Janet Brown of Morgan’s Point Resort, , and son Kenneth Rojas of Fort Collins, Colorado and two grand children Zachary Rojas of Boulder, Colorado and Logan Rojas of Denver, Colorado.
