Raquel Lynn Griffin was born on August 18, 1970, in St. Louis, Missouri to her parents, Kenneth D. Griffin and Gloria Jean Culberson Griffin. She was the third child and only girl born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Daniel, Kenneth and Bryant. In 1977, the family relocated to Denver, Colorado and settled in the Park Hill neighborhood. Raquel received her early education by attending elementary school, middle school in the Denver Public School system where she graduated from George Washington High School in 1988. She furthered her education by attending Emily Griffith School where she studied Culinary Arts. She graduated in 2001, earning her certification as a Chef. Raquel was the proud mother of two beautiful children, Rashacia and Jamar. She adored her children and nothing was more important to her than there care and nurturing. She was one who believed in encouraging her children to always excel academically. They all spent many happy and precious moments together. Later, she was happy and elated with the birth of her grandson, Donnovan. She lovingly called him “Nah Nah Boots” and he fondly remembers them sharing many happy and memorable moments together. By profession, Raquel was a Master Chef. Cooking was her favorite thing to do. She loved hosting family and friends and having them share in her culinary skills. She cooked with pride and excellence. To her, presentation was just as important as preparation. She was employed by Corner Street Bakery. Her co-workers and employers remember her hard work and dedication. She performed all her duties with culinary excellence and precision. She truly loved her job and enjoyed watching the expressions of her patron’s faces as they tasted what she had prepared. She received a number of awards for outstanding performance as a Culinary Arts Chef. Raquel was a woman who never met a stranger. She was a friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her special smile, caring heart, warm embrace. There will never be anyone who could take her place. To know Raquel was to love her. She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Griffin and a brother, Bryant Griffin. Raquel Lynn Griffin departed this life on September 29, 2013, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include a daughter, Rashacia J. Cooley Griffin; a son, Jamar L. Griffin; her mother, Gloria J. (Derandoe) Dickerson; her grandson, Donnovan B. Stafford, Jr.; two brothers, Daniel D. Griffin and Kenneth D. Griffin all of Denver, Colorado and host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousin other relatives and many friends.
