Ranjani (Krishnama) Chaparala was born in Secunderabad, India on July 14, 1952 to Bhim and Leela Krishnama. She was the third of four children. Ranjani received a master’s degree in History. On June 4, 1975 she married Sukumar Chaparala.
The couple soon moved to New York City as Sukumar pursued a career as a physician. She spoke fondly of her time in New York City. She and her husband enjoyed going to Broadway, tasting new cuisines, and exploring the city.
On November 2, 1978 she gave birth to her oldest daughter Preethi Chaparala. In the early 80s the family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma where Sukumar began his medical practice. On April 14, 1983 Ranjani gave birth to her second daughter, Trisha Chaparala. The family resided in Blackwell for many years.
She was involved in several activities in Blackwell such as bowling, Bible study, Home Extension, and ceramics. Ranjani, a vivacious and energetic woman, was loved by everyone she came in contact with. Her children’s friends considered her a second mother. When her husband’s patients called the home she could easily spend an hour consoling them about their health conditions. She considered the postal delivery worker a friend and would leave presents for her in the mailbox at Christmas time. She spread her kindness wherever she went.
Ranjani was a devoted mother her entire life. She was actively involved with PTA and school events. She always made sure her children studied and excelled at whatever they did and therefore instilled in them a desire to always keep learning.
Ranjani had a profound love for her native country, India and she taught her children to be proud of their culture. She made sure to teach them to cook Indian cuisine, how to correctly wear a sari, and always kept them up to date with the latest Bollywood gossip. Ranjani and Sukumar didn’t want their children to lose their Indian heritage and therefore made it a priority to visit India at least once a year for several months at a time. She loved these visits in India as she remained close to her family her whole life. Until the time of her passing she spoke to her mother in India every day. Ranjani was both a devoted wife and mother.
In 2006 her granddaughter Maya Leela Chaparala was born. Ranjani loved Maya and often said, “Maya is my life.”
She was preceded in death by her father and brother. She is survived by her husband Sukumar, mother Leela, daughters Preethi and Trisha, brother Inder, sister Yamini, and granddaughter Maya.
