Randy L. Anderson, 61, died Monday, September 13, 2021 at his home in Altoona, Iowa.
Randy was born July 16, 1960 in Chicago, IL to Marion (Natelson) Anderson. His family moved to Iowa in 1967 and graduated from Chadron Nebraska Job Corps. Randy attended DMACC and studied Computer Science beginning his IT career with Allied Insurance. Randy then worked with CDS, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Central Tractor, and then MODIS- joining Principal as a contract programmer later becoming a fulltime employee at Principal. Randy’s career took him to Aviva/Athene as an International Data Base Manager then finally ending his career at ACT as a Vice President of Data Management, retiring due to illness in May of 2016.
Randy was involved in the community in multiple ways. As a young adult he was a stand-up comedian, touring multiple cities in Iowa. Randy performed in local theater, working with the Drama Workshop where he met the love of his life, Michelle, in the fall of 1980. They were married on May 8, 1982 making their home in Des Moines. In 1988 Randy became involved in coaching boys and girls indoor and outdoor soccer for over 16 years serving as the East Des Moines Soccer Club President for many of those years. Randy also coached boys and girls basketball at Salvation Army and St. Joseph Catholic School. Helping others was important to Randy including volunteering to help the homeless through Care for Camps.
Randy enjoyed traveling with family and friends, playing golf, fantasy football, genealogy and singing Karaoke.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle; children: Andrew (Victoria) Anderson of Des Moines, Christina Anderson (Paul Marsh) of Des Moines; grandsons: Nicolas and Elijah Anderson; siblings: Joelle Bose, Terry (Greta) Anderson, Kenneth (Linda) Anderson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Randy was preceded in death by his mother; and sister, Lynn Anderson.
