It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ramiro R. Llanes of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the age of 93 surrounded by family and loved ones.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Gina; their two children Carlos A. Llanes (Norma), Rita Noemi Llanes; grandchildren: Rodrigo E. Llanes, Santiago R. Llanes (Averi), and Isabel A. Llanes. He was Tío to Manuel Romero, and many other special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters.

Ramiro was born in San José del Los Ramos, Cuba on June 15, 1928 to Ramón Llanes and Rita Ceferina Rodriguez. He was the fifth of 13 brothers and sisters. He had a hard-working but happy youth, and at the age of 27, with a great entrepreneurial spirit, he opened a general store in his home town, which he managed and operated for 14 years. In 1963, due to his collaboration with anti-communist groups, he was incarcerated for 5 years. In 1970, two years after his release, he fled Cuba to Spain with his wife and two young children. The family immigrated to the U.S. in 1972 where they settled in Albuquerque, NM. For the next 24 years Ramiro served as the head Groundskeeper at Menaul High School where he was beloved by students and staff before retiring in 1996. After retirement, Ramiro devoted his time to running his “ranchito”, from where he raised, sold, and butchered pigs until recent years.

Ramiro was a devoted family man who loved many and was loved by many.
